Osteopathy/Naturopathy - Helen McLean “I was first introduced to osteopathy when my mother, who had suffered from a long-standing lower back problem, sought the assistance of an osteopath who successfully relieved the problem. It was through this that I developed my interest in osteopathy which later influenced my decision to follow a career in the profession. I qualified at the world-renowned British College of Osteopathic Medicine in London." "Since qualifying, I have found the job both very interesting and rewarding. I started working at the Glasgow Osteopathic Centre in April 2005 prior to which I worked in other complimentary therapy centres in Scotland."
"Outwith work I am a keen horse rider and have been involved with the Pony Club and Riding for the Disabled Association. This has given me an insight not only into the common 'aches and pains' that can arise from the sport, whether they be from show jumping or mucking out, but also how horse riding can have a therapeutic role in certain conditions and disabilities, and this is an area of interest I am developing”
Helen’s Naturopathic approach to Osteopathy means that in addition to addressing any structural imbalances in the body using a variety of osteopathic techniques, she incorporates advice on nutrition, diet, exercise and lifestyle where appropriate, to address any nutritional, and psychological imbalances in the body. The underlying principle being that good health results from a balance between the structural, nutritional, and psychological aspects of a person.
Helen enjoys working with people of all ages and has experience in treating a broad spectrum of both sports and work related injuries. Her areas of special interest are in postural correction and exercise rehabilitation for muscle imbalance disorders.
Having recently become a mother to Aiden (d.o.b. 08/11/08), Helen has taken a keen interest in providing care from "bump-to-baby", including nutrition. Helen has successfully completed several nutritional courses regarding care throughout/after pregnancy and is training to become one of a select few FORESIGHT practitioners in Scotland, dealing with pre-conceptual care. As you might imagine, Helen also runs our very successful "MOTHER & BABY" clinic on Tuesdays.
{So, apart from being a mum; clinic director; osteopath; horse-riding; studying; running a Mother & Baby clinic AND researching into pre-conceptual care.....she doesn't really do very much (only kidding - Ed.)}

Acupuncture/Massage Therapy/Indian Head Massage - Kirsten Liddell MbACc "I was first introduced to complementary therapies while in high school and became fascinated by acupuncture. As I learned more it all made sense, it seemed logical that the mind, body & spirit should be treated holistically and the lifestyle of being a practitioner was appealing. So off I went to Salford for 3 years to train in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Afterwards I was offered a place as a locum in Sheffield; I worked there for 3 months learning how to build a practice before coming home to Falkirk in 2004".
"Throughout my time training and practicing I have been able to experience other complementary therapies and was offered the opportunity to learn some of these. I was taught Swedish massage while at university as part of the course, this was the standard knowledge I needed to pursue other types of therapies. I came across Indian head massage one summer in Edinburgh and thought this would tie in with my idea of relaxation treatments, it proved to be very popular. In 2008 I was offered the chance to study both Reflexology and Hopi ear candling and jumped at the chance to add these to my repertoire. I now feel I have a well rounded set of skills for treating the body top to toe".
"I have a personal interest in nutrition and am currently studying the basics to give me more of an understanding. I also recently reached my goal weight with Rosemary Conley’s diet & exercise classes. I continue to maintain the low fat, low GI, balanced diet and work out regularly with the help of my local class".
"I am passionate about natural products which do not harm me or the environment. I have worked for Neal’s Yard Remedies since 2004 and have just signed up to be a consultant for their home parties. I believe what you put on your body goes into your body so using natural skincare along with having a healthy diet and regular exercise keeps me going. As well as having as many treatments as I can from my colleagues!" |
